Donât think too hard about this one. Itâs not as difficult as you think.
Since there are 38 entries and only one winner, 37 people will lose once. That means there are 37 bake-offs.

1. A number has 4 unique digits and is odd.
2. The sum of the digits is 10.
3. Each digit is greater than zero.
4. The largest digit is in the thousandths place.
5. The digits in the tens and ones places have a sum of 3.
What is this number?
Thereâs a lot going on here. Start with the last statement: the sum of the tens and ones place is 3. There are only two options here, since none of the digits can be zero: 1 + 2 or 2 + 1. To get these in order, look at the first statement: the last digit must be odd. This means the last two digits are 2 and 1.
Now for the remaining digits. The second statement is helpful here. Since all of the digits add up to 10, find the sum of the first two digits by subtracting 3 from 10. The first two digits have a sum of 7. Itâs pretty easy to list the possibilities here: 1 + 6, 2 + 5, 3 + 4, 4 + 3, 5 + 2, 6 + 1. The first, second, fifth, and sixth are not possible, since each of the numbers can only be used once. (Both 2 and 1 are already in the tens and ones places.) So youâre left with 3 and 4. What order should they be in? Put the 4 first, since the largest digit is in the thousands place. That means 4,321 is the mystery number.
